Day 3, Tuesday

5th of March 2019                                                                                                                                                 Anne Jansen

First of all, I had no idea what to expect of a desert safari on the second day of our stay. I only knew that we we’re about to race in high speed through the desert! My fellow students and I got picked up by the organisation with Jeeps, which were Land Rovers. The gasoline which was used by the jeeps was not sustainable because it was diesel fuel.  Before we came into the desert, we made a quick stop at a souvenir shop to buy a headscarf to protect your face and head against the flying sand. The souvenir shop was very sustainable because the profit goes to the locals.

When the local people put the scarf around our heads, we were ready to go!You have to imagine that this ride in the car was like an attraction in a theme park. High mountains of sand which got down very steep. And also with a high speed! Meanwhile we took a short break, about 15 minutes, just to let our stomach relax for a minute and take a few pictures. Besides that, our driver told us: “Put off your shoes, this sand is so soft!”. I hadn’t had a doubt, so I putted of my shoes. He was definitely right!

After this amazing experience, we went to the desert safari camp. Over here were a few camels which you could take for a ride. There was also a square with different eat places, shops and you could also get some Henna. In the middle of the square was a big round stage and in the evening there were a lot of shows of dancers. We also got invited by the locals to join their barbecue!
